Minimum admission requirements
 
a) KCSE grade C- with at least a D in Biology or Biological Sciences
 
b) KCE Division III with a pass in Biology
 
c) A Level Certificate with 2 subsidiary passes with a pass in Biology at O Level
 
d) Certificate in any Biomedical Sciences including Agriculture and Range Management
 
e) Diploma in any Biomedical Sciences including Agriculture and Range Management
 
f) Any degree from Universities recognized by the senate.
 
Mode of learning: Full time
 
Fee structure: Course duration is 5 Weeks, registration fee is Kshs. 500/= and tuition fee is Kshs. 30,000/=

Application Procedure
 
Application forms can be obtained from the University of Nairobi main campus Admissions Office Reception, Room 116, Administration block, first Floor. 

Forms can also be obtained from any of the UON Extra Mural centres in Garissa, Kakamega, Kisumu, Mombasa, Nakuru, Nyeri, Meru, Kisii, Kapenguria and Lokichogio, or in the Universities Mombasa Campus and Kisumu Campus upon payment of a non-refundable fee of Kshs 3000. 

The application fee may be paid by DIRECT DEPOSIT into the UNES/UON Account, Barclays Bank,Westland’s Branch, a/c No. 03-073-1023948. Bankers’ cheques are also accepted. 

CASH AND POSTAL ORDERS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED.

A Course on Monitoring and Evaluation of Population and Health Programs
 
(August 2012 Intake)
 
The Population Studies and Research Institute (PSRI) invite applications for August 2012 admissions for the above course. 

This is a two-week course that is aimed at equipping program and project managers/officers, planners, and researchers in the fields of population and health with monitoring and evaluation skills. 

The overall goal of the course is to contribute to the improvement of the management of population and health programs and projects in the country and elsewhere and to the development of national experts of monitoring and evaluation. 

The course targets personnel from Government, national, regional and international agencies currently implementing and/or supporting population and health programs.
 
Minimum Entry Requirement
 
The potential applicant will have at least a university degree from a recognised university or a diploma and other relevant qualifications plus at least three years of relevant work experience. 

The applicant should be proficient in English. Having some analytical skills, computer and data systems knowledge would be an added advantage.
 
Course Duration
 
The course is full time and will be covered in two weeks.
 
Course Content
 
The course is structured into the following main modules. Overview of M & E, M&E Concepts, M&E Plan,
Frameworks, Indicators, Data Sources and Quality, Data analysis and Interpretation, Planning for Evaluation, M&E information in decision-making and Stakeholders Engagement for M&E.
 
Tuition Fees:
 
The tuition fees for the course will be Ksh.50, 000/=. This amount does not cover travel, accommodation and living expenses. Teas will be provided during the course sessions. 

The tuition fees will also cover transportation for a field visit. The training venue will be at the Chinese Centre, Main Campus, University of Nairobi, Kenya.

AMREF Virtual Training School E-Learning & School Based Courses


AMREF Virtual Training School is inviting applications for September 2012 intake for the courses outlined below.
 
1. KECHN – KRCHN eUpgrading Programme
 
This diploma course is taught through specially designed eLearning modules and employs a flexible approach that allows the nurses to study at their own time and pace as they continue to work and attend to their usual daily activities.
 
The program also gives nurses an opportunity to obtain funds needed to finance their studies from Kenya
Women Finance Trust made possible through a partnership between them, Johnson & Johnson and AMREF.
 
Admission criteria:
 
Be a Kenya Enrolled Community Health Nurse (KECHN)
 
2. Enrolled Nurse / Midwife EN/M - KRCHN eUpgrading Programme

3. Comprehensive Reproductive Health Course: (1 year Diploma)
 
The school offers a comprehensive reproductive Health distance education course which is recognized by the Ministry of Public Health and Ministry of Medical Services. The course duration is one (1) year and it is examined through written and practical examinations. To be certified by AMREF and Ministry of Health.
 
NB: A shorter version of the course (certificate) through residential training is available for 4 weeks.
 
Admission Criteria:
 
Be a health worker: Nurses, Clinical Officers, Doctors
 
4. Applied Clinical & Community Nutrition
 
This is a short 4 weeks residential certificate course. All health care providers are eligible.
 
Send in your applications with copies of the academic and professional certificates indicating clearly on the application letter the course you are applying for and your telephone number.
 
For each course a non refundable application fee of Kshs.1,000/= is payable to AMREF in cash or cheque. 

All cheques should be made payable to “AMREF”. The applications should be sent in by 15th June 2012.

Government and Self-Sponsored Program


Applications are invited from qualified applicants for a full-time Masters of Public Administration (MPA) which will be offered at KIA beginning September 2012. The programme is a joint collaboration between the University of Nairobi, KIA and the Ministry of Public Service.

General Admission Requirements
 
The common regulations for the Masters degree in the Faculty of Arts, University of Nairobi shall apply

The following shall be eligible for admission ¡n to the Masters in Public Administration
 
A holder of a Bachelors degree of at least Upper Second (Honours) in any field from the University of Nairobi or from an equivalent institution recognized by the University of Nairobi senate
 
a holder of bachelors degree with a lower Second Class (Honours) or an equivalent qualification recognized by the University of Nairobi senate with at least three years working experience may be considered for admission.
 
A holder of Bachelors degree with a pass or an equivalent qualification from University of Nairobi or an equivalent institution recognized by the University University of Nairobi senate may be considered for admission if: 

(a) he/she has at least five years of relevant experience, or: 

(b) has a post graduate diploma in a relevant field from an institution recognized by senate.

Additional Admission Requirements for Civil Servants
  • Applicants must be holders of a first degree from a recognized university
  • Must have served in the public/private/NGO sector for at least five (5) years
  • Must be in Job Group M and above or its equivalent in the public/private sector
  • Must submit a copy of academic certificates and official transcripts
  • Submit a 1-2 pages statement describing your background, career goals and a commitment to public sector ethos
  • Submit three letters of recommendations, at least one from an academic referee . A current curriculum vitae
  • Civil servants must submit their applications through their heads of Departments for approval by the ministerial Training Committee
