Ministry of Education Press Release on Diploma in Education Management of the Kenya Education Management Institute (KEMI)

Ministry of Education

Kenya Education Management Institute

Press Release

The purpose of this press release is to inform you that the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has officially declared that incremental credits will be given to all teachers who successfully complete the Diploma in Education Management of the Kenya Education Management Institute (KEMI).

The Diploma in Education Management program of KEMI was launched in 2011 by the Minister for Education, Hon. Amb. Prof Sam Ongeri. It is a 1-year program delivered through distance learning methodology. It is currently fully funded by KEMI through a GoK grant.

The program has targeted all 19833 head teachers of primary schools and 6009 principals of secondary schools in order to achieve 100% access to capacity building of school heads in Kenya.

So far the enrollment for the program is overwhelming and stands at 3855 principals of secondary schools and 15684 head teachers of primary schools.

To enhance completion rates, KEMI implemented a voluntary Learner Support Program (LSP) in 21 regions all over the country, namely Eldoret North, Eldoret South, Kitale, Nakuru, Narok, Meru, Kigali, Machakos, Kitui, Nyeri, Thika, Mwatate, Mombasa, Garissa, Wajir, Kaimosi, Bungoma, Migori, Nyamira/Kisii, Kisumu and Nairobi.

Where the numbers of participants attending the LSP has exceeded the capacity of the regional centers, additional centers have been quickly established.

The development of the Diploma in Education Management program involved stakeholder workshops, a sensitization workshop for all District Education Officers (DEOs) and a Training of Trainers (TOT) program for the LSP tutors who are drawn from the Ministry of Education and Higher Learning institutions.

KEMI is currently undertaking a national monitoring and evaluation exercise of the program in order to continuously improve the quality of the Diploma program and hence ensure world class standards.

By the time the school heads complete the Diploma program, all public primary and secondary schools in the country will have all the Public Service Management and Reform tools which will transform them into performance driven schools.

The expected outcome is better managed schools which ultimately benefit the children of Kenya.

KEMI is therefore defining the future of school management through innovative capacity building.

If you would like further clarifications on any issue to do with the Diploma program please feel free to write to the Director of KEMI using the following email address:
